Roy's paternal grandparents and family
Robert Bampton Lane (1842 - 16 November 1927). At the time of his death Robert was listed as being a stone mason. His address, at the time of his burial on 18 November 1927 at Linwood cemetery, Christchurch was 473 Barrington Street, Christchurch. Robert married Mary Ann Hopewell in England prior to coming out to New Zealand. Robert and Mary appear to have brought their two eldest children with them, and then to have had four more in New Zealand:
1. Annie Emma Lane (1866 - 1943). Annie married Frederick Charles Robbins (1867 - 1959) in 1892. They had three children:
1.1 Gertrude Eleanor Robbins (20 June 1893 - 1986)
1.2 Beatrice Emily Robbins (1895). Beatrice married Frederic Edward Twyford (1895 -1949) in 1919.
1.3 Harold Frederick Robbins (4 August 1898 -1976). Harold married Olive May Saunders (15 October 1897 - 1980) in 1927.
2. Frederick Bampton Lane (1867 - 1921). Frederick married Mary Amelia Strong (1874 - 1954) in 1898. They had the following children:
2.1 Frederick Alexander Lane (17 June 1904 - 1978)
2.2 Ronald Blundell Lane (10 December 1907 - 1975). Ronald married Mavis Godber Rands (1908 - 1967) in 1930.
2.3 Evilynne Dorothy Lane (1909)
3. Eleanor Mary Lane (1876 - 1905). Eleanor died aged prematurely at 28 years of age.
4. Walter Charles Lane (1879 - 1950). Walter died aged 71 years - I haven't been able to find records of any marriage.
5. Harry Hopewell Lane (1881) see below
6. Robert Arthur Lane (1886 - 1886). Baby Robert died aged only 10 days.

Francis Thomas Mayo (1847 - 1922) married Eliza Atkinson (1852 - 1946) in 1881. They had the following children:
1. Hugh John Mayo (26 May 1882 - 1972). Hugh married Anne "Annie" Lindsay Stevenson (1888 - 1966) in 1914.
2. Constance Alice Mayo (31 December 1885, Ashburton - 28 May 1973). Constance married Harry Hopewell Lane. see below
3. Gilbert Kendell Maurice "Kendall" Mayo (1887). Kendall was living in Brooklyn, Wellington and listed as a "scholar" when he fell off a fence and fractured his left arm, in 1933.
Roy Lane was born to Harry Hopewell Lane and Constance Alice Lane nee Mayo. Harry and Connie had married in 1909. Harry died on 14 September 1941. At the time of his death he was living at 46 Barrington Street, Christchurch. He was listed as being a jeweller on burial records. Constance died on 28 May 1973. both Connie and Harry are buried in the Bromley cemetery.
