Magdalen Turton was Alister's Great x 6 Grandmother. She was the grandmother of Ann Transom nee Beard (wife of James Transom Snr). The Turton family of Bridgnorth, Shropshire, who I have found so far, are as follows:
(I am suspicious that Henry's father was called Francis, but am yet to confirm this...)
Henry Turton married Jane ? some time around 1700. They probably married in Shropshire, but at this time I am unable to confirm the exact date or location. Henry and Jane had at least three children:
1. Elinor Turton (chr. 10 May 1703, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2. Francis Turton (chr. 24 May 1705, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) appears to have married Elizabeth ? prior to 1737. Together, Francis and Elizabeth appear to have had the following children:
2.1 Ann Turton (chr. 16 March 1737, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.2 Mary Turton (chr. 23 June 1738, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2.3 Henry Turton (chr. 13 August 1739, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2.4 John Turton (chr. 26 July 1742, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2.5 Elizabeth Turton (chr. 13 November 1743, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2.6 Francis Turton (chr. 4 July 1748, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
3. Magdalen Turton (chr. 3 January 1707, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) married Thomas Beard (chr. 24 July 1702, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) on 28 April 1732 at St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. More about their family here.
I'm very interested in any more information anyone can provide about the Turton family of Shropshire.
Somewhere, online, to put out there all the family research that has been sitting around on scraps of paper, just waiting to be put together. Information about my family history and Alister's. Various family names - Nidd, Transom, Todd, Latto, Calder, Bertram, Sutherland, Maher, Purvis... and the list goes on. Hoping to share information with fellow genealogical enthusiasts.

Beard Family
Ann Beard was Alister's great great great great grandmother. She married James Transom in 1790. Her family line is as follows:
John Beard married Anne some time prior to 1696. Together they had the following family:
1. Sara Beard (chr. 15 November 1696, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
2. Anne Beard (chr. 4 April 1699, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
3. Elizabeth Beard (chr. 25 July 1704, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
4. Annie Beard (chr. 8 February 1708, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
and
5. Thomas Beard (chr. 24 July 1702, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) married Magdalen Turton (chr. 3 January 1707, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) on 28 April 1732 at St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. Together they had the following eight children:
5.1 Joyce Beard (chr. 19 August 1733, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire). Probably died as a child, prior to the birth, eleven years later, of a second child, also called "Joyce".
5.2 Frances Beard (chr. 16 January 1734, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.3 Thomas Beard (chr. 11 June 1737, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.4 Eustace Beard (chr. 13 March 1739, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.5 Joyce Beard (chr. 20 November 1744, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.6 William Beard (chr. 18 Ausgust 1746, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.7 Edward Beard (chr. 27 February 1748, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
and
5.8 John Beard (21 October 1741, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) married Ann Collins on 30 April 1764 at St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. John and Ann had seven children, including Alister's great x 4 grandmother, Ann:
5.8.1 Ann Beard (chr. 7 April 1765, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire). Ann married 5.8.2 James Transom. See more about their family here.
5.8.3 Elizabeth Beard (chr. 28 September 1766, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.8.4 Mary Beard (chr. 22 November 1768, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.8.5 Sarah Beard (chr. 1 April 1773, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.8.6 Francis Beard (chr. 1 April 1773, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
5.8.7 Fanny Beard (chr. 6 June 1775, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire)
Interestingly. James Transom's grandfather, Andrew Transom (Trensam) also married into the Beard family - marrying Mary Beard - so James' grandmother was also a Beard. I have pondered as to whether or not this person was also a forebear of Ann Beard?

Willis Family of Shropshire
The Willis family of Shropshire are related to Alister in that Jane Trensam (Transom) Willis was the sister of his ancester Andrew Trensam (born in the late 1600s).
On 13 January 1701, in Madeley, Shropshire, 17 year old Jane Trensam married Thomas Willis. They went on to have the following family:
1. Edward Willis (chr. 7 October 1702, Madeley, Shropshire)
2. Marie Willis (chr. 12 March 1703, Madeley, Shropshire)
3. Willis child (chr. 9 March 1705, Madeley, Shropshire)
4. Elizabeth Willis (chr. 25 March 1706, Madeley, Shropshire - 14 June 1708, Madeley, Shropshire)
5. John Willis (chr. 27 February 1708, Madeley, Shropshire) - obviously died as an infant.
6. John Willis (chr. 13 January 1711, Madeley, Shropshire)
7. Elizabeth Willis (chr. 4 April 1714, Madeley, Shropshire)
8. Thomas Willis (chr. 27 December 1716, Madeley, Shropshire)
9. William Willis (chr. 30 March 1719, Madeley, Shropshire)
10. Sarah Willis (chr. 2 February 1725, Madeley, Shropshire)
Eventually I'd like to expand on this information - so if anyone can assist or if these people fit with anyone's research, please contact me.

Boden family of Madeley, Shropshire
Sophia Boden was Alister's Great Great Great Grandmother. On 4 October 1822, at Madeley, Shropshire, she married James Transom, and went on to have at least nine children with him - including Alister's Great Great Grandfather, who would eventually emigrate to New Zealand - Cecil Charles Transom. The Boden family line seems to be as follows:
Charles Boden (chr. 19 February 1737, Madeley, Shropshire) married Sarah Thomas (chr. 6 January 1744)(daughter of Edward and Elisabeth Thomas of Madeley, Shropshire) on 23 June 1765 at Madeley, Shropshire. See Sarah's family here.
1. Elizabeth Boden (chr. 6 September 1765, Madeley, Shropshire)
2. Edward Boden (chr. 19 October 1766, Madeley, Shropshire)
3. Charles Boden (chr. 5 November 1769, Madeley, Shropshire)* See below
4. Mary Boden (chr. 3 April 1771, Madeley, Shropshire)
5. Penelope Boden (chr. 18 September 1774, Madeley, Shropshire) married William Franks on 17 January 1794 at Madeley, Shropshire.
5.1 Sarah Boden (chr. 9 October 1796, Barrow, Shropshire)
5.2 Eduard Boden (chr. 19 May 1799, Barrow, Shropshire)
5.3 Elizabeth Boden (chr. 29 November, St Leonard, Shropshire)
6. Sarah Boden (chr. 30 June 1776, Madeley, Shropshire)
7. Benjamin Boden (chr. 28 May 1778, Madeley, Shropshire)
8. William Boden (chr. 14 May 1780, Madeley, Shropshire)
9. Elizabeth Boden (chr. 23 June 1782, Madeley, Shropshire)
10. Jane Boden (chr. 23 May 1784, Madeley, Shropshire)
11. John Boden (chr. 27 August 1786 , Madeley, Shropshire)
*3. Charles Boden (chr. 5 November 1769, Madeley, Shropshire) married Elizabeth Yates on 26 December 1790 at Wrockwardine, Shropshire. They had the following children:
3.1 Mary Boden (chr. 15 May 1791, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.2 Charles Boden (chr. 8 February 1893, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.3 George Boden (chr. 9 March 1795 , Madeley, Shropshire)
3.4 Benjamin Boden (6 September 1797, chr. 24 September 1797, St Oswalds, Oswestry, Shropshire) married Ann Wallet on 7 June 1819, Buildwas, Shropshire
3.4.1 Elizabeth Boden (chr. 23 September 1821, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.4.2 John Boden (9 April 1825, chr. 4 June 1827, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.4.3 Rosanna Boden (chr. 11 January 1829, Madeley, Shropshire). Appears not to have married, but to have had three children out of wedlock, namely:
3.4.3.1 William Boden (1846)
3.4.3.2 Caroline Boden (1848) married Jonas Jones (1847)(son of William Jones) on 22 May 1870 at Dawley-Parva, Shropshire. On her marriage certificate her father is listed as "John Boden", which seems odd. According to the 1881 census, Caroline's mother Rosanna/h lived with them at Heath End, Rushall, Shropshire. Caroline and Jonas had the following children:
3.4.3.2.1 Emily Jones (chr. 14 August 1870, Dawley-Magna, Shropshire)
3.4.3.2.2 Caroline Jones (chr. 7 May 1872, Dawley-Magna, Shropshire)
3.4.3.2.3 Elizabeth Jones (chr. 1 November 1874, Dawley-Magna, Shropshire)
3.4.3.2.4 William Jones (1877, Pelsall, Staffordshire)
3.4.3.2.5 Hannah Jones (1880, Pelsall, Staffordshire)
3.4.3.2.6 Susannah Jonas (chr. 28 January 1883, Pelsall, Staffordshire)
3.4.3.2.7 Florence Jones (24 March 1888, chr. 22 April 1888, Pelsall, Staffordshire)
3.4.3.3 Edward Boden (1850)
3.4.4 Benjamin Boden (chr. 16 June 1833, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.5 Winifred Boden (chr. 14 March 1802, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.6 Sophia Boden (chr. 25 December 1803, Madeley, Shropshire) married James Transom. See Transom family information here.
3.7 Sarah Boden (chr. 18 August 1805, Madeley, Shropshire)
3.8 John Yates Boden (chr. 24 July 1808, Madeley, Shropshire - 29 August 1813, Madeley, Shropshire)

Thomas family
This branch of the Thomas family of Shropshire are interlinked with Alister's side via the marriage between Sarah Thomas and Charles Boden in 1765.
Edward Thomas married Elisabeth Willis on 11 May 1737 at St Mary Magdalene, Bridgnorth, Shropshire. They had the following children:
1. Edward Thomas (chr. 28 April 1838, Madeley, Shropshire)
2. Joan Thomas (chr. 7 December 1740, Madeley, Shropshire)
3. Sarah Thomas (chr. 6 January 1744, Madeley, Shropshire) married Charles Boden (chr. 19 February 1737, Madeley, Shropshire) on 23 June 1765 at Madeley, Shropshire. See Charles' family here.
I'm interested in any other information about this family, as all I have is rather sparse.

Transom family roots
Our branch of the Transom family appear to have hailed from Shropshire - notice the changes in spelling - Trensam, Trensame, Trensame, Transum, Transom (and even later Transome). The information I have so far is as follows:
Edward Trensam married Elizabeth Charleton on 16 May 1684 at Madeley, Shropshire. They had at least two children whose christenings are recorded - they are:
1. Jane Trensam (chr. 25 January 1684, Madeley, Shropshire) married Thomas Willis on 13 January 1701 at Madeley, Shropshire. Jane and Thomas had a large family - see here.
and
2. Andrew Trensam/Trensum/Trensome (chr. 17 October 1686, Madeley, Shropshire) married Mary Beard on 5 July 1713 at Madeley, Shropshire. Andrew and Mary had five children:
2.1 Jane Trensam (chr. 24 November 1714, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.2 Elizabeth Trensam (chr. 30 November 1716, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.3 John Trensam (chr. 27 November 1720, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.4 Andrew Trensam (chr. 10 July 1723, Broseley, Shropshire - 25 September 1726, Broseley, Shropshire). Andrew died aged only three years.
and
2.5 Edward Transum/Trensam (chr. 16 October 1718, Broseley, Shropshire) married Rebecca. Edward and Rebecca had the following children:
2.5.1 Richard Transum (chr. 1 November 1746, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.2 Edward Transum (chr. 21 September 1748 St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire - 23 December 1750, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire). Edward died as a two year old infant.
2.5.3 John Transum (chr. 15 April 1753, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire - 27 April 1767). John died aged only 14.
and
2.5.4 James Transum (chr. 1 November 1763, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire). James married Ann/e Beard (chr. 7 April 1765, St Leonard, Bridgnorth, Shropshire) on 1 February 1790 at St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire. James and Ann had the following family.
2.5.4.1 Mary Transum (8 May 1791, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.2 John Transom (22 November 1793), St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.3 Rebecca Transum (26 July 1795, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.4 Ann Transum (15 July 1798, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.5 Elizabeth Transum (30 January 1803, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.6 Eunice Transum (3 November 1805, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.7 Sarah Transum (21 January 1810, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire)
and
2.5.4.8 James Transom/Transon/Transum (1801, St Leonard, Broseley, Shropshire) married Sophia Boden (25 December 1803, Madeley, Shropshire) on 4 October 1822 at Madeley, Shropshire). They had the following children:
2.5.4.8.1 Ann Transom (born 1824, chr. 26 February 1826, Madeley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.8.2 Betsey Transom (born 1826, chr. 26 February 1826, Madeley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.8.3 Richard Transom (chr. 27 May 1827, Madeley, Shropshire - died 7 June 1829)
2.5.4.8.4 James Transom (chr. 8 February 1829, Madeley, Shropshire) married Ann ? and emigrated to the United States. In the 1880 American census, James Transom is recorded as being a 51 year old coke burner, living with his family at Belle View, Campbell, Kentucky. At the time of the census, James was living with his 50 year old wife Ann, and his 14 year old daughter Ellen B. Transom. Ann had apparently been born in England in 1830. Ellen was recorded as having been born in England in 1866, so they obviously emigrated after her birth. While James was working, Ann was "keeping house" and Ellen was attending school. Their daughter:
Ellen Bertha Transom (chr. March 1866, Madeley, Shropshire - 1951) married John Edmund Hill of Cork, Ireland in Kentucky. Apparently they had five children including:
Estella Elizabeth Hill (1891, St Louis, Missouri - 1967, Pasadena) married Seth Miller (20 February 1890, St Louis, Missouri - 3 September 1967, Pasadena) at St Louis, Missouri. They had one daughter - Fern Elizabeth Miller (22 November 1914, St Louis, Missouri - 19 June 1995, Pasadena) and then moved to Pasadena, Los Angeles, where Seth owned service stations and was Mayor of Pasadena in the late 1950s.
2.5.4.8.5 Charles Transom (chr. 18 February 1831, Madeley, Shropshire) married Maria Knight/Night (1837, Newnham, Gloucestershire)
2.5.4.8.6 Joseph Transom (chr. 19 August 1932, Madeley, Shropshire)
2.5.4.8.7 Josiah Transom (1834, Shropshire) married Frances Mary Lloyd on 28 November 1853 at Madeley, Shropshire. I don't believe that Josiah and Frances had any children of their own.
2.5.4.8.8 Eustace Transom (1836, Shropshire) married Jane Maria ?. Jane had died by the 1881 census, when Eustace, an excise officer, was described as a widower. Eustace and Jane had two daughters:
2.5.4.8.8.1 Agnes Transom (26 January 1868, Hadley, Shropshire). By the 1911 census, Agnes was living in Carnarvonshire, Wales and was still unmarried at the age of 42.
2.5.4.8.8.2 Jessie Transom (10 March 1869, Hadley, Shropshire). I'm unsure what happened to Jessie, but by the 1901 census, she was visiting a house in London, and had not yet married. There doesn't seem to be a record of her in the 1911 census, so she had possibly married by that point.
2.5.4.8.9 Cecil Charles Transom (2 Dec 1841, Broseley, St Leonards, Shropshire, chr. 2 January 1842, Madeley, Shropshire). See more information on Cecil (Alister's ancestor) here.
CANADIAN BRANCH:
James Transom (1847, Salop, Moseley - 22 June 1917, York township, York, Ontario) is listed as a four year old grandson in the 1851 census - it's unclear who his parent is. James would have been a cousin of Alister's great grandfather. In 1871, James was living in Brosely, Shropshire with his wife and children. The census indicates his area of birth. He was married to Mary Wase (1849, Salop, Moseley). Obviously the family emigrated to Canada some time between 1871 and 1895. James and Mary had the following children:
Betsy Allice Hallings/Gallings Transom (1867, Salop, Moseley - 6 January 1911, Milton, Halton, Ontario). Betsy never married.

Webber Transom (26 May 1912, Nassagaweya, Halton, Ontario)
Dora Susannah Transom (1877 - 12 July 1936, Port Credit, Ontario) married her first husband Claude Glover and then ? Howden. With her husband Claude, Dora had the following children:

As with all posts on this blog, I'm always keen to add to the information about the families - and as this is our last name, I'm particularly interested to flesh out the Transom family.
Arthur James H Transom (1870, Salop, Moseley) married Mary Jane Hamilton on 20 November 1895 at Milton, Halton, Ontario, Canada. Their children were:
Almariah Transom (8 September 1896, Nassagaweya, Halton, Ontario)
Lula Transom (5 February 1898, Nassagaweya, Halton, Ontario)
Webber Transom (26 May 1912, Nassagaweya, Halton, Ontario)
Dora Susannah Transom (1877 - 12 July 1936, Port Credit, Ontario) married her first husband Claude Glover and then ? Howden. With her husband Claude, Dora had the following children:
Cyrus Glover (7 June 1896, East Flamborough, Wentworth, Ontario)
Carl Orlando Cecil Glover (7 June 1896, East Flamborough, Wentworth, Ontario)
Eva Transom (1880 - 5 January 1936, Port Credit, Ontario). Eva never married.
Ernest Josiah Transom (22 February 1890, Esquesing TWP., Halton, Ontario)
Velma Mary Wase Transom (16 June 1893, Nassagaweya, Halton, Ontario)
